A K Hangal

Avtar Kishan Hangal (1914 - 2012) was an Indian freedom fighter and actor who appeared in around 225 Hindi films.

Hangal was born in Sialkot (now in Pakistan) into a Kashmiri Pandit family. He started his career as a tailor in Peshawar.

He was jailed in Karachi for two years (1947-1949) for being a communist.

Hangal was involved with the theatre group IPTA along with Balraj Sahni and Kaifi Azmi.

Hangal began his Hindi film career at the age of 52 with the film "Teesri Kasam" in 1966. 

The government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Hindi Cinema in 2006.

In his later years, Hangal faced financial difficulties and health issues, struggling to meet his medical expenses.
