Bharat Ek Khoj

Shyam Benegal's 1988 television series Bharat Ek Khoj is based on Nehru's "The Discovery of India".

It was launched in November 1988 to coincide with the birth centenary of Nehru.

The 53-episode Indian historical drama covers the 5,000-year history of the Indian subcontinent from its beginnings to independence from the British in 1947. 

According to the Producer, Director and Writer, Shyam Benegal, there was over 3 years of preparatory work prior to actual shooting which went on for a year. 144  sets were constructed and hundreds of actors mainly from National School of Drama including stalwarts like Om Puri, Naseerudin Shah, Amrish Puri, Irrfan Khan were part of the series.
