Rumi Darwaza

The Rumi Darwaza  in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh is a gateway which was built by Nawab Asaf-Ud-Daula in 1784. It is an example of Awadhi architecture.

Rumi Darwaza is also known as the Turkish Gate. Who knew Lucknow had a little bit of Turkey?

Imagine modelling a gate after one in Constantinople (now Istanbul) back in 1784!

It stands at a whopping sixty feet tall! That's one impressive entrance.

Apparently, it used to mark the entrance to Old Lucknow. It’s like the city's way of saying, "You shall pass!"

You can find it chilling between Bara Imambara and Chota Imambara.
