Chenab Bridge is the world's highest single-arch railway bridge. The bridge connects Kauri and Bakkal areas of Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The bridge's height is 359 meters and length is 1315 meters.
The bridge was declared a national project due to its national importance in connecting Kashmir to the existing lines of Indian Railways.
Work started in November 2003 and the bridge was inaugurated in August 2022. The bridge was opened for rail traffic in June 2025.
Shapoorji Pallonji Group's flagship infrastructure, engineering, and construction company, Afcons partnered with Northern Railway, and Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) for constructing the bridge at a cost of ₹14.86 billion (US$180 million). The construction used about 28,660 tonnes of steel. The steel was supplied by the Steel Authority of India. The painting contract was awarded to AkzoNobel.
The bridge is designed to have a life of 120 years and is designated to handle rail speeds of up to 100 km/h (62 mph).
