Jairam Ramesh, born on April 9, 1954, is a politician, columnist, and author.
He joined the Congress Party as a full-time member in 1998 after holding several governmental roles and has been a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing the Indian National Congress since June 2004.
Jairam graduated from IIT Bombay in 1975 with a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering and later earned a Master of Science in Public Policy and Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College between 1975 and 1977.
Identifying as a practicing Hindu with Buddhist influences, he describes himself as a "Hind-Budh."
He introduced the term "Chindia" in his 2007 book, "Making Sense of Chindia: Reflections on China and India."
