Secunderabad Cantonment dates back to 1798, when an alliance between Hyderabad’s Nizam Sikander Jah and the British East India Company resulted in the creation of a military cantonment just north of Hussainsagar.
The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is the civic body responsible for managing the Secunderabad cantonment area. Located within the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, it holds the distinction of being India’s second-largest cantonment board, after Bathinda Cantonment.
Areas in Cantonment:
- Trimulghery
- Marredpally
- Bowenpally
- Hakimpet
- Jawahar nagar
- Bolarum
- Ammuguda
- Kawkour
The Secunderabad Cantonment covers roughly 10,000 acres, with around 2,676 acres privately owned by residents, about 5,670 acres under Army control, and approximately 414 acres owned by the Centre.
About 3,071 acres of the Secunderabad Cantonment are set to be merged into the GHMC as part of the expansion announced on December 25. The revamped civic body will feature 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards.
