Acko

Acko is a digital-first (online-only) insurance company in India offering general, life and health insurance (newer among the 30+ health insurers in India) products. It sells everything directly through its app and website — no agents, no paperwork, and no middlemen. Because of this, Acko usually offers lower premiums compared to traditional insurance companies.

  • Founded by Varun Dua in 2016.
  • Before Acko, Varun Dua co-founded Coverfox Insurance in 2013, an online insurance aggregator.
  • Even before Coverfox, Dua founded a CRM and software services company for the insurance industry in 2010, which he also successfully exited before moving into the aggregator space.
  • Acko officially entered the "Unicorn Club" (company valued at over $1 billion or ₹8,000+ crore) in 2021.
  • Everything at Acko is app-based and paperless
  • Backers include General Atlantic, Accel Partners, Elevation Capital and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. 
  • In FY26, Acko underwrote motor insurance premiums of Rs 1,186 crore and health insurance premiums of Rs 1,235 crore.
